The Children’s Department of Secaucus Public Library serves the recreational reading and research needs of children, ages birth to 12 years, with a collection of fictional and non-fiction books, multimedia books, audio CDs, DVDs, magazines and much more. Included in our collection are items in Spanish as well as bilingual books and DVDs.
We offer a variety of programs throughout the year for children, from our Chess Club for ages 5 and up. Please follow us on Facebook for quick program updates, photos from our events, and access to fun and age-appropriate links.

Lap-Tots
This program is for babies and their caregivers. Lap-Tots mixes music, finger plays, stories and more in this interactive lap-sit program.
Who: Babies up to 2 1/2 years old and their caregiver
When: First 3 Fridays during September – June at 9:15am-9:45am OR 10:00am-10:30am OR 10:45-11:15am
Where: Panasonic meeting room; Requirements: proof of Secaucus residency.
Paws for Reading
For children ages 5-12 years old who want to practice their reading skills . Kids get to read, relax and spend time with therapy dogs Rodney and Baby-Ruth. See the calendar for dates and time.
Rhyme Time
This storytime is filled with stories, crafts, songs, games and lots of fun!
Who: Children 2 1/2 to 3 years old
When: Wednesday or Thursday during September – June
Time: 11:30am-12:15pm
Where: Children’s Department
Requirements: two proofs of Secaucus residency, birth certificate and immunization records.
Extended Story Hour
This drop-off program’s purpose is to help children develop good listening, social and motor skills, gain separation from their caregivers and interact with their peers. This program requires pre-registration in June before the start of the September session.
Who: Children 3 to 3 1/2 years old
When: Monday/Wednesday or Tuesday/Thursday from
September – June
Time: 9:30am-11:00am
Where: Children’s Department

Reading with your child is a great way to establish early literacy skills, as well as encouraging parent and child bonding through reading. Read a book (any book) to your newborn, infant, and/or toddler. The goal is to have read 1,000 books before your precious one starts kindergarten.
