Apply for a Library Card

Did you know you can apply in person or online for your library card?

What can I do with a library card?

You can:

  • Check out books, movies, CDs, magazines, audiobooks and more!

  • Get access to online databases for research

  • Download audiobooks to your iPod, MP3 player, PC or Mac computer

  • Use our computers

  • Visit museums free of charge*

  • Request items from home through the online catalog

How do I get a card and who is eligible?

If you live, work or go to school in Secaucus, you are eligible for a card.  We require two proofs of Secaucus residency, one with a photo identification.  We do not accept post office box addresses.  If you work in town, you must apply for a card in person and we require proof of current employment and a letter from your employer.  Those Secaucus employees who live in a town within the BCCLS network, you do not need to apply for a Secaucus library card.  Your card works here just like your home library!

Acceptable Documents Include:

  • NJ Driver’s License

  • Property tax bill

  • Utility bills

  • Bank statements

Can a child have a library card?

Absolutely and we encourage it.  Children under the age of 16 need a parent/guardian to fill out the application.  The parent will need to provide proof of Secaucus residency when filling out the application.  Older students can show their school ID, driver’s permit or license.

What else should I know about my library card?

If you lose your card, there is a $3.00 replacement fee.  You are responsible for any fines or items checked out on your card.

Library cards are issued for three years to residents.  You will need to show proof of residency when renewing your card.  Secaucus employees are issued cards for one year.  You will need to show proof of employment when renewing your card.
